Jeff Reed’s Buzzer Beater Sets off Wild Celebration in Boys’ Basketball Action

With the scored tied and precious seconds ticking off the clock, Westwood’s Jeff Reed decided that overtime was not going to be necessary. A fade away three pointer from the corner as time expired kissed the cords on the way down and sent Westwood to a thrilling victory over the Leander Lions Friday night at the Westwood Field House. As the 51-48 final was posted on the scoreboard, Reed was mobbed by teammates and fans alike. The game was close throughout as Westwood held a slim lead at the half and could never fully break away from Leander in a hard fought second half. Reed’s efforts, combined with one of the better performances by his Westwood teammates this season, sent the Warriors to only their second district win of the season. Azariah (AJ) Johnson turned in one of his best games, finishing with 12 points, in addition to several critical boards and blocked shots. Reed’s magical trey at the end of the game was part of his nine total points.

Earlier in the week, Westwood came out on the short end of a 59-33 score to Georgetown. Reed and Kyler Fry chipped in seven points apiece to lead the Warriors.

Westwood’s record for the year now goes to 12-18 and 2-9 in district 16 AAAAA play. Next up is the always entertaining rivalry with McNeil Tuesday night at the Maverick’s home court. Then Friday, Westwood hosts the final home game of the season against Stony Point. The game will be preceded by a special Parents’ Night ceremony.

The Warrior’s defensive back line, led by senior Alex Dolan, dominated the second half and held Georgetown off for the win. Final score of the match: Warriors victorious 2-1.

The Westwood Boys JV Basketball Team had a rough shooting night at Georgetown gym Tuesday night, and eventually fell to the Eagles by a final score of 65-60. The Warriors took a season high 70 shots, but converted only 21, in their coldest shooting night of the year. Paul Kelley and Matt Holeman led the Warriors with 12 points each, while J.T. Dettman added 10 more.

On Friday night at the Warrior Dome, the Jr. Warriors took it out on the visiting Leander Lions and coasted to a 59-46 victory. Jake Pearcy played a solid floor game and chipped in 13 points to lead the way. J.T. Dettman with 11 and Matt Holeman with 10 points were the other Warriors in double figures for the night. Heru Martin led the defensive effort with 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Next up for the Warriors will be at the McNeil Mavericks on Tuesday and then their final home game of the season against Stony Point on Friday.
