Sub Varsity Game Summary

JV Orange 14 - Austin High 6

Randy Davis

Warriors win! Warriors win! The Warriors defense exploded vs Austin High. The weather was a factor and the field was sloppy, but that did not stop the Warriors from flying around and crushing Austin Highs offense. The Warriors special teams really turned the tide by causing 2 fumbles on KO returns. The recoveries were made by Weston Washington and Ian Fry. The offense moved the ball well in the 1st half but was unable to score because of drive stalling penalties and fumbles. The halftime score was 0-0.

The warriors decided at halftime that weather and officials were not going to decide the game. The Warriors took their first drive and punched it in on a 10 yard rushing TD by Kyle Jacobson. After some great defense the Warriors offense played well by controlling the ball and changing field position. On a nice drive at the beginning of the 4th quarter Kyle Jacobson took the ball up the middle and scored another 20 yard TD. The Maroons answered and completed a 50 yard pass to set up their only TD. The Warriors defense continued to hold Austin as the game ended on Austins final drive. The game ended with Warriors winning 14-6.

There were steller performances last night. The defensive line added tons of pressure on Austins QB. Those guys were Ian Fry, Kent Holmstrom, Ryan Jabber, Daniel Berry, Oscar Rivera, and Josh Martinez. The offense was again led by the offensive line. They are Justin YU, Hunter Cottle, Forrest Six and Chris Moritz. The unbelievable performance by LB Jordan Fischer was asked to play center, the most difficult position and having to snap from a swamp of water and mud. He did a great job. Kyle Jacobson had another nice game completing several passes. Weston Washington was the standout at Wr. The Warriors play Stony Point in 2 weeks.

JV White 0 - Austin High 6

Danny Faust

The Westwood Warriors traveled to Garrison Park in South Austin to play the Austin High Maroons and came away with their first loss of the season from a score of 0-6. The Warrior offense played well but couldn’t capitalize on a few redzone opportunities to score points. The offensive line, with the addition of John Ferguson, played well throughout the night. Sloppy conditions hindered the Warrior passing game throughout most of the night. The Warriors defense led by Travis Brumley and Nestor Rubiano played with great effort but gave up one score that ended up being the only score Austin High needed. Playing well for the Warriors were Tyler Lewis, Tyrell Walker, and Cody James. In two weeks, the Warriors will take on the Stony Point Tigers at Stony Point High School.

Freshman Orange 12 - Austin High 16

Tom Robbins

The orange team played a good game in the rain against the Austin High Maroons and just came up a little bit short. They battled the entire night, but were not able to hold the Maroons out of the end zone. The defense played well and was led by Chris Sims, Max Boatright, A.J Peterson, Tyler Logan, Brian Hopson, and Blake Thomas. The offense struggled at times but had some good points. Drew Hillhouse caught a touchdown from Patrick Carter and Chris Sims caught a touchdown from Sam Swenson. Justin Dixon had a nice touchdown on a kickoff return that was called back on a penalty. Next week the Warriors will be off and begin district against Stony Point the following week.

Freshman White 14 - Austin High 12

Mike Whitten

The warrior white team had another great game out lasting the Maroons 14-12. The warrior offense came out facing a six point deficit and went right to work. Emerson Delgado connected on the first drive with Matt Lee for a 40+ yard touchdown pass. The warriors scored again later in game on a touchdown run from Ty Marshall. Mac Freeman had two great snaps to Conner Talbot who added two extra points in the contest going two for two on the night. The defense played a great game making some key stops when needed. Defensive standouts were Brad Watson, Andrew Bagaline, Matt Lee, and Adam Zess. The Warriors will be off next and will face Stony Point the following week.
