Highlanders End Season for Warriors

The Lady Highlanders swept Westwood on Monday knocking the Lady Warriors out of playoffs and ending their season. The Warriors fought hard but came up short in both games dropping game one 3-4 and game two 9-10.

In game one, senior pitcher Haylee Staton struck out 8 batters and hit a double, while freshman second baseman Jordan Poole went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

In game two Poole, sophomore left fielder Emily Mayfield and junior catcher Daniele Durham all hit doubles. Senior shortstop Emily Prehoda hit her sixth homerun of the season, bringing in 3 runs, while Poole picked up two more RBIs.

The Warriors end their season 22-14 (.611) with an 8-6 (.571) district record, 3rd place district finish, and a bi-district championship.

Good luck to seniors Haylee Staton, Emily Prehoda and Megan Stockberger. You will all be missed!

Faces of the Field: Westwood's Haylee Staton

Senior pitcher Haylee Staton was featured in this Friday's issue of the Austin American Statesman. Here is part of her interview:

Now that you're in the second round of the playoffs, what has been the key to the team's success?

The secret is going 100 percent the whole game, and when we get behind, to never give up — and we will be OK.

What's your favorite softball memory?

The day I was told that UTSA wanted to offer me a full ride to play for them, and then the day I called coach (Lori) Cook and committed. It was such a great feeling to know that I had found the school for me and was going to get to fulfill my dream of playing Division I softball.
